Redtail boas are a very tame and docile snake. They can reach sizes of 12 feet but usually average between 6 and 9 feet. They are mild mannered and can usually be handled safely. Be sure to wash your hands with soap before and after handling any snake. Children should only handle snakes with adult supervision. Redtail boas are not picky eaters. Small boas will eat pinkie mice, pinkie rats and small mice. Adults will eat mice and small to large sized rats. Start with a 20-30 gallon tank and grow as the snake
grows. Use newspaper, reptile bedding or reptile turf. Create
shelters with climbing and basking areas. A large bowl of fresh water
for drinking and soaking should be provided at all times. Keep the tank
between 82 and 95 during the day and 72 to 80 at night. Keep either heating
pads or a heating rock in the tank for a 24 hour heat source. They should
have a basking light above the cage to get the proper day time temperature. Click here to submit a comment to include on this page
